Government has announced 18 bills to be debated
According to a bulletin issued from the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the government intends to introduce legislation which strengthens Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from 107 members currently to 114 in order to represent refugees, migrants and people hailing from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as well as Scheduled Tribes.
On November 29th, the government submitted 18 bills to be considered in the Winter Session of Parliament that begins next week, such as two to expand women’s reservations law across Jammu & Kashmir and Puducherry as well as three that replace criminal law. As announced from Lok Sabha Secretariat notices published during November 29, they also plan on including an act seeking to increase Jammu & Kashmir Assembly membership from current 107 to 114 to provide sufficient representation for refugees, migrants and people displaced from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Scheduled Tribes populations as well.
Alongside these bills, government also made public their first list of requests for grants for 2023-24 – these requests will be used during debate, presentation and voting in this year’s Winter Parliamentary Session which starts December 4th and runs to 22nd December.
