Manchester City Clinches Fifth Trophy of 2023 with Club World Cup Victory
Manchester City secured their fifth trophy of 2023 by thrashing Brazilian side Fluminense 4-0 in the Club World Cup final. Julian Alvarez scored the fastest goal in the Club World Cup final’s history, finding the net just 40 seconds into the game.
Pep Guardiola’s squad, missing the injured Erling Haaland, had already claimed the FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup earlier in the year.
Alvarez delighted the travelling City fans with his quick goal, capitalizing on a rebound after Fluminense’s goalkeeper Fabio pushed Nathan Ake’s long shot off the post. Nino’s own goal in the 27th minute, deflecting a shot from Phil Foden, added to Fluminense’s woes.
Foden further solidified City’s lead in the 72nd minute, sliding to poke in a hard cross across the box from Alvarez. Alvarez completed his brace in the 88th minute with a strike from just inside the box.
The 4-0 victory marked a remarkable year for Manchester City, capping off their successful campaign with yet another trophy. The fans erupted into “Blue Moon” in celebration of the triumph.
